A huge wall projection invites young visitors to immerse themselves in the Amazon rainforest. They can interactively discover stories of the indigenous cultures of origin. Playfully, they become part of the narrative themselves - intuitively and low-threshold through the movement of their own bodies.

The idea for the interactive forest and the hammock area came from representatives of the Ye’kwana from Venezuela and Brazil.

Together with the curatorial team of the Ethnological Collections and Asian Art Berlin, two ethnomusicologists Dr. Bernd Brabec de Mori and Dr. Matthias Lewy (Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts) and representatives of the cultures of origin Neten Rama (Shipibo) and Kaikutse (Pemón), we developed the concept for the interactive media wall "Amazonia".

The illustration style is organic and natural. The beauty and diversity of the tropical rainforest is captured and reflects the deep connection of indigenous cultures to their environment. At the same time, the formal abstraction of the style creates a certain distance from reality, allowing mythical elements to be seamlessly woven into a playful and unbiased narrative. To emphasize the natural handmade style, the animations are done frame by frame.

The movements of the visitors are recorded by Orbbec 3D camera sensors. The depth image is then analyzed in real time in vvvv. In multiple user tests with different groups, we tested the various prototypes up to the final application.
